The North Trent Critical Care Network is a collaborative partnership between NHS Trust hospitals and Primary Care Trust commissioners who work together to jointly review, plan, commission and develop critical care services within the area. The focus of the network is general adult critical care. The North Trent area covers the whole of South Yorkshire and also includes North Derbyshire and Bassetlaw residents, with a population of 1.8 million.

The Critical Care Network in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University provides a post-basic critical care course which provides 60 credits. This can provide a partial award at degree level of postgraduate certificate.

Outreach Services

Comprehensive Critical Care, published in 2000, recommended that Outreach services should be developed as an integral part of each NHS Trust’s critical care service. The aim of critical care outreach is to share critical care skills across the hospital and help ensure that all patients who are critically ill receive the required level of care irrespective of whether they make it into a designated critical care bed.
